Endacea, Inc. (Research Triangle Park, NC) is an emerging biopharmaceutical company that is developing a series of proprietary A1 adenosine receptor (AR) antagonists as drug candidates for medical indications, including renal impairment associated with acute or chronic heart failure, as well as with nephrotoxins, e.g. cisplatin-induced renal impairment, inflammation, including asthma and sepsis, and for biodefense indications as a medical countermeasure for weapons of mass destruction, including plague, tularemia, and ionizing radiation induced organ injury from a "dirty bomb."
The Company has demonstrated therapeutic efficacy for its lead compound, L-97-1, in a rat model of renal impairment, in an allergic rabbit model of asthma, and in two rat models of sepsis, including a bioterrorist rat model of pneumonic plague.
The Company's patent estate includes twelve issued U.S. patents, one allowed U.S. patent application, four pending U.S. patent applications, and many international patents and patent applications. These include patents pertaining to the use of A1 AR antagonists and P2X purinoceptor antagonists to treat ischemia-reperfusion organ injury, disorders resulting in fibrosis and sclerosis, including autoimmune diseases and inflammation (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis), and other indications. In addition, Endacea owns three patents and patent applications pertaining to the diagnosis, imaging, and treatment of cancer.
